2024 Granite Mex Mex
This 2024 Captive Bred Granite San Luis Potosi Kingsnake (Lampropeltis mexicana) is a breathtaking example of one of the most sought-after kingsnake morphs. The Granite morph produces a stunning salt-and-pepper speckling effect, reducing the typical banding into a mesmerizing wash of grays, silvers, and charcoal that looks almost hand-painted.
San Luis Potosi Kingsnakes — affectionately known as “Mex Mex” or “SLP Kings” — hail from the rugged mountain highlands of Mexico. They are widely regarded as one of the most beautiful kingsnake species in the world. Compact, hardy, and topping out at a very manageable 3 to 4 feet.
Priced at $450, this is a premium captive bred specimen. Available now at Jungle Treasures Exotics in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
- San Luis Potosi Kingsnakes are ophiophagous — they eat other snakes in the wild, including venomous species. Like all kingsnakes, they are immune to pit viper venom, which is how the “king” in kingsnake earned its name.
- The Granite morph breaks up the normal banding into a diffused, speckled appearance. No two Granite SLP Kings look exactly alike!
- Mexican Kingsnakes are montane species, living at elevations of 3,000 to 7,000 feet. This high-altitude origin makes them exceptionally tolerant of temperature variation.
- Rare and highly prized morph — the Granite pattern is one of the most coveted looks in Mexican kingsnakes
- Manageable adult size — 3 to 4 feet fits comfortably in a standard enclosure
- Exceptionally hardy — montane origins make them tough and adaptable
- Conversation-starting beauty — the salt-and-pepper granite speckling draws attention from across the room
- Captive bred and feeding — born in 2024 and established on frozen/thawed prey
